What not to do when investigating relationship concerns yourself

Set boundaries before anxiety leads to unlawful, dangerous, or escalating conduct.

Avoid these actions

  • Unauthorized access to devices or accounts
  • Attaching GPS or tracking equipment without consent
  • Entering a home, room, or property without permission
  • Dangerous following, waiting, or confrontation
  • Impersonating another person to obtain information
  • Publishing another person’s private information or images

Safer alternatives

Record what you lawfully observe, preserve materials you own, and choose the right support route. Ask a lawyer before taking an action when legality is unclear.

If you feel unsafe

Move to a safe place, contact someone you trust, and call 110 in an emergency. A PI consultation is not emergency response.
